This mural was commissioned by the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Three other artists and I were asked to paint a mural depicting a Dartmoor scene on two walls in their dementia ward hallway. We aimed to create a warm and welcoming scene for the patients and nurses to take them away from their stressful shift and to give patients a well-needed break.
We included a bus stop and bench to allow patients to feel as though they were truly immersed in the experience of being in nature and feel as though they have control again. I made sure to add details such as birds, mice, and humorous features to the animals. We have been overwhelmed with positive feedback on how our mural has helped patients and nurses.
I would love to continue to bring joy to people's lives through the means of art and murals. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you would like something similar in your home or company.
